AFC Oakley U14 Tornadoes Take Budapest by Storm!

The AFC Oakley U14 Tornadoes have returned from a sensational weekend tour to Budapest, Hungary—full of football, fun, and just a tiny bit of chaos. The headline? We’re coming home as champions of the Soroksar FC Sori U14 Cup!
The Journey
The team landed in Budapest on Friday, ready to fly the Oakley flag abroad. Thanks to Coach Pete, the boys looked razor-sharp in their kit—and dangerously full of energy (too much, as it turns out…).
Tournament Triumph
Saturday was all about football. Three matches, three big performances:
– A gritty 2-1 win over Erdi VSE
– A disciplined 1-0 victory against Olasz Focisuli
That set up a grand final clash with hosts Soroksar SC, played on the club’s first-team pitch, under the spotlight of a proper crowd. The real fan heroes though? Our very own AFC Oakley U10s, fresh from their own U11 tournament and louder than the locals. Oakley Ultras, age 10.
In the final, the Tornadoes were immense. Goals from Tim and Alfie sealed a 2-1 win and the trophy—followed by epic celebrations and a drenched Coach Pete, who was ceremoniously soaked by the players. He never saw it coming.
Off the Pitch: Chaos, Culture & Comedy
Off the pitch, the boys fully embraced the freedom of tour life—maybe a little too much. Hotel corridors became race tracks, bedtimes became myths, and the parents gallantly supervised from the hotel bar (for hours… purely out of duty, of course).
Coach Pete’s “quick 40-minute walk” somehow became a 2-hour urban hike, ending with the boys being Ubered back while the parents made the heroic decision to walk it… via a few strategically chosen bars for refreshment.
Cultural highlights included park football, e-scooter adventures, the incredible KARAVÁN street food, and a growing parental enthusiasm for cherry beer.
But perhaps the tour’s biggest twist? Coach Dan was mistaken for Pep Guardiola while out on the streets. A local even asked for a photo. Sadly, the illusion didn’t quite hold once he started giving touchline instructions the next day…
Huge Thanks
Enormous credit goes to Tim, without whom the tour would simply not have happened. From booking logistics to managing the madness, his dedication, planning and leadership were absolutely immense.
And let’s not forget:
Pete – fashion chief, logistics king, and official team shower victim.
Dan – tactical mind, morale booster, and Oakley’s very own Not-Quite Pep.
And of course, heartfelt thanks to Soroksar SC for hosting us with such hospitality and warmth.
A weekend of laughs, late nights, footballing magic, unforgettable memories—and a shiny trophy to show for it.
